Midsummer Festival in

historic Norskot

The couple, Sir Olsen and Lady Fenja, as well as trainer Kimi, were served the traditional herbal schnapps amid loud shouts. Noise and drinking have long been part of the Midsummer customs. It was firmly believed that this would bring good luck, that it could drive away evil spirits and thus ensure a good harvest.

As for the evil spirits, they had probably been awakened rather than banished. For just when things were getting particularly merry, in the middle of the dances, a scout dashed at full speed onto the forecourt of the forest house. The messenger dismounted his steaming horse and hurried up the hill toward Sir Olsen. He bowed and handed him a dispatch. Sir Olsen skimmed the lines.

Everyone watched, spellbound, as Sir Olsen raised his voice: "Thank you, Scout Erik, for your haste. You will be taken care of now..." With his eyes, Sir Olsen signaled to his squire Barne to take care of the scout and his horse.

Sir Olsen spoke firmly to the waiting faces at the fire pit: "Unfortunately, our Midsummer celebration is now over immediately," Sir Olsen said, looking at each of the cadets and trainer Kimi. "Colonel Arvid von Bendikt announces that haste is required. Our troops' attack is imminent. You'll hear everything else later."
